1982: When turbocharging was so important, it inspired a cologne
During the 1980s, the word TURBO became so culturally significant that its use spread into plenty of non-automotive situations. Perhaps the most turbocharged TV commercial of the entire decade wasn't even for a motor vehicle, but for a Fabergé cologne: TURBO. Beginning with the rear of a stylized car (that looks suspiciously like a Toyota Supra or maybe a Mitsubishi Starion) roaring into an atomic sunset, this ad shows a lot of visual influence from the 1980 Datsun 280ZX "Black Gold" commercial, plus maybe a bit of audio influence from the 1981 "Escape From New York" soundtrack. TURBO!
