1985: Chrysler Fifth Avenue is a rich cheapskate's luxury car
As the oil-well-owning Chrysler Fifth Avenue owner in this 1985 television commercial says, "I enjoy making money. And spending it. But not foolishly." The 1985 version of the Fifth Avenue (known as the New Yorker Fifth Avenue until 1984) was based on the decidedly proletariat M Platform, basis of the sturdy and affordable Dodge Diplomat. Perhaps this wasn't the sort of car that a Texas oil billionaire would buy, but the Fifth Avenue was reasonably comfortable and held together well.
