Ferrari wins International Engine of the Year
Ferrari has once again taken out International Engine of the Year, beating Jaguars all-electric powertrain and Mercedes-AMGs ubiquitous V8 for the honour.
Its the fourth year in a row Ferrari has won the award, a feat thats never been achieved before. Ford won three years running with its 1.0-litre EcoBoost three-cylinder engine, so back-to-back awards arent unheard of, but its an impressive achievement for the folks in Maranello nonetheless.
This year saw the introduction of a new category system. Rather than dividing things by displacement, engines are categorised by outputs.
The 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 from the 488 GTB and Pista scored 425 points in the overall category, comfortably ahead of the Jaguar I-Pace pure-electric powertrain on 328 points and Mercedes-AMGs 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 on 280.
“Now [the Ferrari engine] has won the overall award four years straight, cementing its place in the history books," Dean Slavnich, International Engine and Powertrain of the Year awards co-chair.
"I very much doubt such an achievement will ever be matched again.”
