FIA WEC updates 2019-’20 calendar
The FIA World Endurance Championship has made several tweaks to its 2019-’20 season calendar with two adjusted dates. Its provisional calendar was released in August.
Fuji’s race comes forward one week to October 6, 2019. It also now avoids a clash with IMSA’s Motul Petit Le Mans in 2019.
“Our 2019-2020 season calendar features the same venues and race lengths we announced at Silverstone,” said Gérard Neveu, CEO of the WEC.
“But, following the F1 calendar publication, we have modified two dates. The knock-on benefit of this is that we will now avoid a clash with both IMSA’s Petit Le Mans and the Macau GT event which is a bonus for both competitors and fans of endurance racing around the world.”
An additional change comes for its Chinese race, which also comes forward one week from November 17 to November 10.
The 2019-’20 season begins at Silverstone on September 1 with a four-hour race. The existing FIA WEC season still has five more rounds, with Fuji and Shanghai in 2018 and Sebring, Spa and Le Mans set for the first half of 2019.
The FIA WEC will submit this version of the calendar to the FIA World Motor Sport Council for approval in Paris on October 12.
