The 1980s were a strange time -- Aqua Net had taken the world by storm, disco was starting to disappear and Reagan was in office. While that seems like a totally different world, drivers apparently were just as distracted, and a local Indianapolis news station wanted to prepare its viewers to manage “mishaps” while driving.

In the video, there are some obvious problems -- like arguing with people in the back seat -- that exist today. But the strangest problem facing drivers is something that hardly plagues people behind the wheel today: cigarette-related fires. The report in the video notes that you have to be careful when using your car's ashtray, as to not ignite any of the trash with your cigarette.

The video also takes care to deal with normal problems like dogs in cars, dust in the eye and sneezing on the highway. The local affiliate, RTV6, brought up the video noting that it was probably a slow news day.
