Images of McLaren’s fastest-ever supercar have emerged online ahead of its official debut.

The evocatively named McLaren Speedtail, known throughout its development as the BP23, presents as the antithesis to the McLaren Senna track car.

While the Senna is a visually confronting machine bristling with spoilers, carbon-fibre flics and a fanatical dedication to weight reduction, the Speedtail appears as a polished lozenge focused on drag reduction. Aero covers for the front wheels join a smoothed front end with minimal air intakes.

On the inside, an exotic three-seat layout echoes the classic McLaren F1, positioning the driver ahead and between two passengers.

High-High-resolution digital screens feed the driver a wealth of information, and key controls for the car’s transmission, suspension and chassis systems are placed in the roof overhead.

Pictures of the car emerged on Reddit after a story appeared on Blick, a Swiss news site.

Full details for the model and its twin-turbocharged hybrid V8 capable of propelling the car beyond 390km/h are expected to emerge over the weekend.
