McLaren teases special edition model with ‘iconic British brand’
Amidst the fanfare of the brand new Speedtail, McLaren recently teased a collaboration with “an iconic British brand” and the unveil of a new special edition model.
Unforgivable use of the word ‘iconic’ aside, McLaren has confirmed the new model, teased on its official Twitter account, will feature “a new dimension of style, design and innovation”.
The accompanying image is shrouded in darkness, but appears to show the rear valance and taillights of a 570GT and a shadowy figure walking through the foreground.
We can probably discount a tie-in with Aston Martin, Morgan, Lotus, or, hell, Bloodhound then, given that the 570GT features softer suspension than the performance-focused 570S, a glass hatch, and extra luggage space indicative of McLaren’s ‘luxury’ model.
Let’s just say the 562-hp power output from the 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 probably won’t change much with this “new dimension.”
Tempting as it is to see what the likes of Twinings, Hamleys’, W.G. Foyle, and even Cadbury could do with a McLaren 570GT (the world’s first edible carbon monocoque?), chances are this #collaboration will involve a high-profile British fashion label like Alexander McQueen, Burberry – God help us – Hackett and even Paul Smith.
Don’t be too surprised to see a bespoke set of travel bags being slotted underneath that glass hatch in the near future.
