Polestar is finishing up its testing of the 1 hybrid before production begins next year. We know it will be a hot performer with 600 hp and 737 lb-ft of torque. But the company is also focusing on the drivability of its latest GT.

“Whenever you drive a Polestar 1, you should immediately feel like you are in control and that the car is ready to respond to your input, no matter what you want to do,” said test driver Joakim Rydholm. “This is a GT that needs to be easy to drive and comfortable in everyday use with its smooth and quiet hybrid drivetrain -- but also ready to deliver its thrilling 600 hp and 1,000 Nm performance whenever the driver wants it.”

The company says that “steering responsiveness and torque vectoring calibration have taken priority in the latest tests” and that the next phase is production in its Chinese facility.

The Polestar 1, remember, will get a 2.0-liter turbocharged four at the front wheels and two electric motors in back. Look for a sprint time of less than four seconds, along with a suitably impressive top speed.

The first 500 Polestar 1s are sold out; the next batch will go on sale in 2020.
