The 2020 Ford Bronco is designed to delight traditionalists
The 2020 Ford Bronco has lurked in the shadows for some time now, and despite teaser photos, we’re still not really sure what it will look like.
Thankfully for those of us who just can’t wait, Ford North America’s president just offered us some clues.
And they point to a truck very much targeted toward Bronco purists.
North American president Kumar Galhotra told Automotive News the Bronco is a brand asset with a lot of name recognition, and that it connotes off-road capabilities the automaker has to deliver on.
Translated: Ford doesn’t want to make this just some glorified CUV with a throwback nameplate (cough—Chevy Blazer—cough).
Galhotra also said the name “Bronco” paints a picture in people’s minds as to what it should look like, and that the designers of the new generation have worked hard to make the shape classically Bronco. It should be in good hands, as these same stylists were the ones in charge of making the new Mustang look as classic as it does.
The new vehicle was also shaped by Bronco enthusiasts from all walks of life, including young people who cling to the first-generation Bronco’s styling, so that makes us hopeful for the production version, even if it is rumoured to be a four-door instead of a classic two-door.
The Bronco is described by the executive as “one of the most exciting products” happening right now, so hopefully, his excitement translates into the Bronco we all hope it will be.
